Hidratante ou balm, qual é o melhor para a minha pele?

Moisturizer or balm, which is better for my skin?

In a beauty routine, it is common for questions to arise about the benefits of certain products, and one of the most frequent is the difference between a moisturizer and a balm. Although both aim to care for the skin, they act in different ways.

A moisturizer, as the name suggests, is developed to maintain natural hydration by replenishing water. It also prevents dryness, leaves the skin glowing, balances oiliness, can minimize blemishes, and, on the face, even softens fine lines.

Among the active ingredients that have an affinity with water:

  • Dragon's blood - which contains the substance proanthocyanidin, an antioxidant 20 times more potent than vitamin C and 50 times more potent than vitamin E;

  • Cacay - an oil that contains 50% more vitamin E, twice as much linoleic acid as Argan oil, and three times more retinol when compared to rosehip oil;

  • Copaiba - an oleoresin that has copalic acid in its composition, with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help in the hydration and softness of the skin, in collagen regeneration, improving elasticity and firmness.

Balm: restorative and protective action

Its texture is denser because it is composed of oils and butters, which form a kind of barrier, preventing water loss, protecting against external aggressions, such as cold and dry weather, and relieving irritation and flaking (common in sensitive skin).

Among the active ingredients:

Rosewood - which has moisturizing and soothing action;

Native Cocoa Butter - which is emollient, regenerating, and stimulating.

And Copaiba - yes, this active ingredient is a star when it comes to repairing the dermis.

Therefore, balm is generally indicated for sensitive skin and areas that tend to dry out more easily, such as lips, elbows, knees, and other parts of the body.

Slugging effect

When your skin needs extra care because it is dry, dehydrated, cracked, dull, and rough, or you are in extreme climates (very hot or cold), it is worth doing slugging, a technique that consists of first applying the moisturizer to replenish moisture, waiting a few seconds for the product to be absorbed, and then applying the balm, which acts to "seal," helping to retain water and boost hydration.

Only then can you understand what you need to use. Invest in clean beauty products with natural and effective ingredients that are also committed to sustainable practices.
