Last Friday, August 9th, we celebrated the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. That is why we, at Amakos da Amazônia, want to highlight the fundamental role these peoples play in the conservation of our greatest heritage: nature!
According to a study conducted by the Instituto Socioambiental (ISA)*, indigenous peoples are responsible for protecting 30.5% of Brazil's forests. This figure can be justified by their knowledge of local flora and fauna, and management practices accumulated over generations.
With that in mind, how do we protect the forests?
Amakos da Amazônia is based on the "Standing Forest" preservation policy, which involves developing businesses that value the forest without deforestation, generating income and jobs through sustainable supply chains.
Among our actions, we extract the oil used in our cosmetics carefully. For example: we drill holes into Copaiba trunks to collect the necessary amount of the active ingredient, which is used in our Copaíba Hydra line. Afterwards, these holes are sealed to allow the tree to regenerate.
We are also part of the Eureciclo post-consumer packaging reverse logistics program, ensuring responsible disposal of the packaging we generate.
Furthermore, AMAKOS da Amazônia is aligned with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as established by the United Nations (UN), including: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Climate Action.
You can also conserve nature!
It is important to make conscious choices when buying a product, whether for beauty, health, or well-being. Including Amakos da Amazônia cosmetics in your routine is a great example of how you can do good for the environment - and for your skin!
