Copaiba: what can this ancient tree do for your skin?

You may have come across several products based on copaiba. It's no coincidence: this is one
of the most widely used Amazonian ingredients in national and international cosmetics and
perfumery. Before it was used in products, however, it was already used by local populations.
But then, what is copaiba and what are its benefits for skin and health? Check out some
interesting facts!
Where does it come from?
You already know that copaiba comes from the Amazon biome, along with all the diversity that
exists in the region. The resin, the main and most valuable ingredient of the species, is
extracted from the trunk of this tree.
In Amazonian communities, the copaiba resin oil has been used for hundreds of years for
mainly medicinal purposes, so much so that it is known as the "antibiotic of the forest" or the
"miracle tree". There are reports that animals also used copaiba bark to heal their wounds.
Today, extracting the oil from the tree on a larger scale must be done carefully in order to
preserve the species. To do this, holes are drilled into the stems of the plants and passed into a
reservoir. Once the desired quantity has been extracted, the holes are closed. In this way, the
tree can regenerate after a period of rest.
What is it about copaiba?
The nickname "natural antibiotic" makes perfect sense in the case of copaiba, since its oil, rich
in diterpenic acid called beta-caryophyllene, has healing and therapeutic properties. On the
skin, this is reflected in tissue regeneration.
Copaiba oil is full of beta-caryophyllene, a component that seems a little strange at first glance
but has well-known and highly desirable effects. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant,
antimicrobial and antiseptic properties.
Because of this, copaiba is very useful for treating burns, wounds, eczema or other conditions
of inflammation or irritation. Another function is to protect the skin from infections caused by
bacteria or fungi, preventing the proliferation of bacteria that cause acne, for example.
Copaiba = moisturised and radiant skin
Not only health benefits: the use of copaiba on the skin also results in a better appearance
because of its moisturising and nourishing action due to the content of essential fatty acids.
The skin becomes firmer, moisturised, and brighter.
In addition, part of copaiba's antioxidant function includes fighting free radicals, molecules
that cause wrinkles and expression lines. Frequent use of copaiba-based products has the
opposite effect and leaves the skin smoother and silkier.
In practice
You can use products made with copaiba without fear, whatever your skin type and especially
during periods when it dries out more, such as in winter. When using cosmetic products
containing copaiba, it is important to check the origin and the quality of the ingredients used.
Choosing reliable brands and certified products can guarantee effectiveness and safety.

Copaiba is as valuable for a good-looking skin as it is for the health and biodiversity of the
Amazon rainforest. The balance between its extraction for use in cosmetics and the
sustainability of the biome is possible through good choices. Discover Amakos Copaiba
