O que é a barreira cutânea? E por que ela é tão importante para sua pele?

What is the skin barrier? And why is it so important for your skin?

Stop now and observe the skin on your body. This outer layer that you see is the skin barrier, also called the stratum corneum. It has several benefits:

  • it aids in the body's defense;
  • it prevents the entry of external agents that cause infections and irritation;
  • it retains water, preventing dehydration and the appearance of wrinkles and spots.

Now, think of an orange cut in half and placed in the refrigerator, with one half in a glass jar with a recyclable lid and the other left on the refrigerator door. Over time, both will oxidize, but which one will deteriorate first? Exactly. The one on the door suffered various types of damage, will have a different color, and will be dried out because it lacked protection.

The same happens with our skin barrier, which becomes dry, irritated, itchy, red, and sensitive due to harmful habits, such as very hot showers, excessive sun exposure, and the use of moisturizers containing alcohol, petrolatum, parabens, and silicones.

What to do to improve the skin barrier

  • Drink two liters of water a day;
  • Use sunscreen;
  • Avoid very tight clothing;
  • Go easy on hair removal;
  • Take quick, lukewarm showers;
  • Avoid exfoliating or using sponges, as both can remove the skin's natural protection;
  • Moisturize right after your shower and reapply moisturizer before bed, if necessary;

Active ingredients that your cosmetics must have

Antioxidants - their function is to protect against cellular oxidation, a natural process of the body, preventing dryness and premature aging.

Collagen - the protein responsible for making the skin more elastic and firm.

Cacay - it increases hydration power and resistance to aggression, as it contains 50% more vitamin E, twice as much linoleic acid (vitamin F) as Argan oil, and three times as much retinol (vitamin A) as rosehip oil.

How can Amakos da Amazônia help maintain your skin barrier?

We have the Cacay line (Caryodendron orinocense, its scientific name) with a serum and facial cream, in addition to the body lotion.

In our formulas, the active ingredient is used for its retinol concentration, which contributes to the mimicry of natural squalane—a process that causes certain vegetable oils to "imitate" the properties of the squalane found in human skin, contributing to hydration and protection due to its compatibility and similarity to the skin's lipid composition.

It is worth remembering that all our products are clean beauty and dermatologically tested : )
